With only a few days left of the school year, I look back on my time at Colonia High School and reflect these past four years. Although the ending is something I never imagined, I still can’t help but to be grateful.
Freshman year
Freshman year I entered Colonia High School as a loud mouth tiny girl with a big personality. I was excited to start off high school and was ready to enter this new phase of my life. However my freshman year didn’t go as I expected it. I had a whole plan of what activities and clubs I was going to do, what classes I would succeed in and so much more. I had a lot of confidence in myself and just thought, this place is exactly like middle school. But those expectations never became a reality and I am so happy they didn’t.
Sophomore year
My sophomore year was the year that everything changed for me. This year I went from a loud mouth tiny girl into a beautiful mature butterfly. I decided that this year I challenge myself and do things I enjoyed not what my friends did. I joined colorguard this year and I became friends with so many people I would have never have met because of it. Also, this year I had two classes that completely changed my outlook on high school, English and Journalism.
Mrs. Spiewak was my English teacher sophomore year and let me tell you I am so grateful she was. I have never had a teacher that has pushed me to become a better student as much as her. In that class we had to write a 10 page Literary Analysis paper and before that, I had never written more than three pages. She pushed me to my limits with this paper. Some days were harder than others, and there were times I wanted to quit but I didn’t. When I finished that paper I had never been more proud myself. I couldn’t believe that I was able to accomplish something of that magnitude but I did because of her help.
Also, my sophomore year I was the first time I took Journalism with Mrs. Allen. The realize that I took Journalism was because my brother took the class and I thought it would be fun. Little did I know that this class would change my life. By taking Journalism I learned how much I loved this field and how it would be awesome to make a career out of it. Mrs. Allen and the rest of my classmates became my family and people I could trust with my life.
Junior year
Junior year I continued with building off of the success and hard work as the previous one. I took Journalism again this time I had a bigger responsibility as being an editor. There were times I were strict and impatient, but being an editor for The Declaration was a highlight of my junior year and I took that responsibility very seriously. I also, continued with my extra curricular activities and continued to build off of the advice Mrs. Spiewak gave me.
Senior year
Entering my senior year I expected it to be one of the best years of my life. I was taking a bunch of interesting classes, had some of my favorite teachers, and was looking forward to the perks of being a senior. The beginning of the year went fantastic and I loved every second of it. One of my favorite parts was taking Screenwriting and Video Production. I had the most fun I have ever had in that class. I made some amazing friends worked on some cool projects, and was able to mix my love for movies into a possible career. Everything was going well for me then disaster struck. We were told the dreaded new that due to COVID-19 students will not being going back to high school.
Hearing that news broke my heart because it all came to fruition that I will never get to experience my senior year like most seniors do. I will never have a normal senior graduation or prom, and I will never get the chance to finish out the year like normal. It is upsetting to think that there are multiple classmates who I will never go to school with again. Although, I am upset about all of this I am still grateful for my time spent at Colonia High School and cannot wait to start this new chapter.
Goodbye Colonia High School
I want to take this time to thank every single one of my teachers for pushing me to be the best version of myself I could be. I also, want to thank my classmates for being some of the greatest friends I have ever had. You guys have been by my side from the beginning of high school. To my family, thank you for my number one fans and always supporting my decisions. Lastly, I want to thank Mrs. Allen and my journalism classmates for being my second family. It has been a honor being your Co-editor-in-chief this year with Angelina Wintonick and whoever takes over next year you will do great things.
From the bottom of my heart thank you everyone for everything. Colonia High School will always be a second home for me. This is not a goodbye this is a see you later. This chapter of my life has been unforgettable but I am ready to close the page and start a new one.
